The Mexico Immigration Form

1. What is a Tourist Card and why I need it?
Every person entering Mexico with or without a visa needs a Mexican Immigration form.

2. What is an FMM
And FMM or Tourist Card is an Immigration Form that allows you to enter the country It contains detailed information about your visit to Mexico, which you provide yourself by filling out the (online) form.
The FMM or Tourist Card is per person regardless of age, so when you travel with children each child has its own FMM.

The information you provide on the Tourist Card should match your passport information and this information is kept by the Mexican Immigration Authority as an official record of your visit to Mexico.

3. How much does it cost?
The 2020 price for an FMM is 575 MXN (Mexican Pesos) which converts to appx. 30 US$ or 27.50 Euros

Some websites say the FMM is free, but this is not true!!

When you fly into Mexico the price of the FMM is usually included in your ticket. But the FMM is NOT free.

The only free option is when you stay less than 7 days and cross a US border, you have to check this with a nearby INM Office since this may vary per location.

4. How do I pay for my FMM?
You take the form and go to the nearest bank to pay for your tourist Visa, or pay online with your credit card.

5. When I fill out an online form do I need to upload a copy of my passport?
NO, you DO NOT need to send your passport. you fill out the form and print the PDF generated after you finish and you need to present it together with a valid passport at the border crossing.

6. How long do I have to keep my Tourist Card?
There are two (2) parts of the Mexican Immigration Form, the Entry Form & the Exit Form. You fill out both forms with the proper information and when you arrive in Mexico and proceed to the immigration booth.
An immigration officer will keep the ENTRY (TOP) Part of your form and he/she will stamp the Exit (BOTTOM) Part of the form and hand that back to you, you will keep it while in Mexico. When you are leaving Mexico to go back home, you will present the Exit Part of your form along with your passport.

When leaving by land you do not always have to hand in your exit form, unless you are stopped at the border. When leaving by air your FMM will be taken in on check-in.

7. I fly into Mexico, do I need to fill out a form online?
Most Airline companies have the price of the FMM included in the ticket and will hand out this form in the plane before landing. Fill it out on the plane to avoid long waiting hours when entering Mexico.

When in doubt, check with your Airline company about the FMM, not all companies print the expenses in the bill.

8. I travel on a cruise ship, do I need an FMM?
All visitors entering Mexico need an FMM, but your Cruisecompany will handle this for you. They will hand out a form for you to fill out and handle Immigration upon departure.

The price of the FMM is most likely included in your cruise ticket.

Make sure you have the newest form and always fill out your FMM at the website of the Government or the border crossing at an INM Office.
